Colle di Caprauna | 1375 METER | Cantarana Caprauna
The Colle di Caprauna is an Alpine pass on the Italian border between Piedmont in the north and Liguria in the south. It offers a very winding route – especially on the eastern ramp – and is well wooded, but the road is asphalted, making for a relaxed drive.
The Colle di Caprauna is located in the immediate vicinity of the slightly lower Alpine pass Passo del Prale to the west. It is also on the route between Cantarana in the west and Caprauna in the east. The border between Piedmont and Liguria makes a sharp bend to the south here, so that the route changes regions several times. The first time is with the Passo del Prale in the west and the last time with the Colle di Caprauna in the east. This border has a special significance, as Piedmont did not belong to present-day Italy for centuries and was constantly contested.
Tip: On the east ramp or towards Albenga (Riviera) there is an interesting destination: the small village of Coletta with numerous churches, a castle and a medieval village backdrop.
For motorcycle tours that include beautiful, perhaps unknown Alpine passes, the interactive Alpine Passes Atlas is ideal. Put together your tour, share tour data, create a roadmap (PDF) with pictures, descriptions and facts, and finally download the GPX data – free of charge. Nowhere else are all the relevant Alpine passes marked on a digital map.
