Cormet d'Areches | 2108 METER | Beaufort Aime

The Cormet d'Arêches is located between the towns of Beaufort and Aime. A little-travelled and mostly unpaved route, although it can be driven with simple off-road knowledge , which crosses the Massif de Beaufort. The alpine pass leads almost parallel to the well-known Cormet de Roselend.

Coming from the north, in the direction of Cormet de Roselend, the turn-off is in the village of Beaufort. About two-thirds of the route is paved and very attractive to drive. Above the reservoir – a beautiful viewing platform on the Massif de Beaufort – a gravel road begins, which is more difficult on the north side. There are more bends, larger boulders, washed-out cross-channels and eroded rocks to negotiate. The downhill ramp to the south is more pleasant and shorter.

The Alpine pass is a real alternative to the sometimes very busy Cormet de Roselend and can be easily incorporated into a tour that then continues over the Col de l'Iseran. The Cormet d'Areches is also about 130 metres higher than the Cormet de Roselend.

The view from the summit, a high plateau, into the valley towards Beaufort is fantastic. There are some nice little restaurants and bistros in the valley to the south that are well worth a visit.

On the north side, there are a few bistros and restaurants in the town of Beaufort. Note: there is no petrol station in Beaufort. If you are coming from Col des Saisies and driving south, do not keep to the left towards Beaufort, but keep to the right. After about 3 kilometres, you will come to a petrol station.
