Splügenpass | 2113 METER | Splügen Chiavenna

The Splügen Pass is located at an altitude of 2115 metres and connects Splügen in the Swiss Rheinwald in the canton of Graubünden with Chiavenna in the Italian province of Sondrio and Lake Como. The road is paved throughout, has two lanes and is closed in winter from November to May.

On the Swiss side, the road is challenging in the upper third in the direction of the San Bernardino Pass. Many narrow hairpin bends and steep ascents – especially in traffic – can be stressful for inexperienced drivers. On the Italian side, there are two options on one section: the old, winding road and the new, well-developed route.

All in all, this is a fun pass with many opportunities to stop for refreshments. Further down, in the direction of Chiavenna, there are some typical Italian bars. From Chiavenna, the route continues towards Lake Como or back to Switzerland, towards the Maloja Pass.
