Sella Chianzutan | 954 METER | Chiaicis Pozzis
The Sella Chianzutan (also known as Passo di Chianzutan) is a little-used and little-known Alpine pass in the Carnic Pre-Alps.
It is only famous among motorsport fans as the venue for the ‘Verzegnis – Sella Chianzutan’ hill climb, a race in the European Hill Climb Championship. The asphalt is of correspondingly high quality: the bends are often wide and offer excellent grip, making the pass interesting for motorcyclists and sporty drivers.
The northern ascent from Verzegnis is characterised by a series of clearly visible hairpin bends that wind rhythmically up the mountain. The south side through the Val d'Arzino, on the other hand, is more rugged, narrower and often follows the course of the Arzino river with its crystal-clear, turquoise pools.
At the top of the pass, there is a small restaurant/bar that is often a meeting place for bikers and offers local specialities (such as frico).
The Sella Chianzutan can be combined with the Passo di Monte Rest, the Sella di Rioda, the Sella di Razzo or the Sella Chiampon to form a large Friuli circuit. Just try out the interactive and digital Alpine Passes Atlas.
