Pragelpass | 1548 METER | Glarus Muotathal
The Pragelpass is a mountain pass in Switzerland that connects the Muotatal in the canton of Schwyz with the Klöntal in the canton of Glarus and the small town of Glarus. The pass summit lies at 1548 metres, west of the Drusberg and east of the Pragel. The road runs along the Klöntaler See, partly as a single lane. The ramp on the side of the canton of Schwyz occasionally rises sharply (up to 18%). The road runs parallel to the Klausen Pass. In 1940, the present pass road was built on the Glarus side, followed by the Schwyz part in 1974. The road construction, in which the Swiss military was involved, was mainly due to military considerations. Since 1978, a short stretch of the eastern ramp has been closed to motor vehicle traffic at weekends to prevent through traffic.
However, this Alpine pass offers not only the actual pass summit but also a very beautiful drive along the Klöntaler See. For several kilometres, you drive directly along the lake, almost at water level. There are plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the view.
