Mendelpass | 1363 METER | Kaltern Fondo

The Mendel Pass is a mountain pass southwest of Bolzano between South Tyrol and Trentino in Italy. It is the deepest incision of the Mendelkamm, which runs parallel to the Adige Valley, between the 1737-metre-high Penegal in the north and the Roen at 2116 metres in the south. The pass, at 1,363 metres, connects the Überetsch near Eppan with the Nonstal near Fondo. The Mendel Pass has been the language border between the German-speaking and Italian-speaking Tyrol since time immemorial. Today, the autonomous provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol border on each other here. The pass road is open all year round. It is forbidden for caravans.
