Lago di Luzzone | 1613 METER | Olivone Olivone
The drive to Lago di Luzzone, situated at an altitude of 1,613 metres, is an absolute must if you are travelling in the region, to or from the Lukmanier Pass.
The winding climb through the Blenio Valley offers spectacular views and plenty of varied driving pleasure. The route, starting from Olivone, leads through narrow tunnels and a series of varied hairpin bends up to one of Switzerland’s most impressive dams.
There are parking facilities right next to the 165-metre-high Luzzone dam. The view down from there is breathtaking. Highlight: the dam has also been converted into a climbing wall.
Right by the lake, the Ristoro Luzzone restaurant invites you to take a break and enjoy Ticino specialities whilst taking in the panoramic views.
Tip: A drive through the tunnel in the dam up to – or better still, across to – Passo Muazz. However, the route is a gravel track after the tunnel and ends after about 4 kilometres – shortly after the pass summit – at the dam of the much smaller Lago di Carassina reservoir.
Note: The number of tunnels just before the dam makes the approach to Passo Muazz a bit confusing. The three tunnels side by side lead to the car park, or to the restaurant, or to the route across the dam. From there, the route continues through a tunnel along a gravel track to an alpine pasture.
The route to Passo Muazz runs slightly below tunnel number 4. This route leads into the dam and emerges again below the dam wall.
