Jaunpass | 1509 METER | Val de Charmey Boltigen
The Jaun Pass connects the Gruyère region in Fribourg with the Simmental in the Bernese Oberland. It branches off to the west from the classic Alpine pass route between Lake Thun and the Rhône Valley.
In contrast to the surrounding Alpine passes Col du Pillon and Saanenmöser, this route is fun to drive, at least on the eastern ramp. The eastern ramp is characterised by 12 hairpin bends. The western ramp is more straight. The eastern ramp offers wonderful views down into the valley. Shortly before the top of the pass, there is a car park where you can stop and enjoy the view.
The road is in very good condition – it is an important connecting pass, after all. The hairpin bends are wide and not very steep. The picture shows the east ramp, slightly below the top of the pass.
