Colle di Nava | 963 METER | Ponte di Nava Acquetico
The Colle di Nava Alpine pass is a very well-maintained road near the border between Piedmont and Liguria. Only the southern side towards Acquetico is somewhat winding.
Overall, the landscape and, above all, the many forts that were built here are more impressive. The Forte Centrale, located in the village of the same name, is particularly noteworthy. It is open to the public and still extremely impressive today.
This fortress, along with several others in the immediate vicinity, is part of a fortification system dating back to the early 19th century.
Piedmont was a region that was fiercely contested between the French and the Habsburgs for centuries. For a long time, Piedmont also belonged to the royal house of Savoy and Sardinia, which in turn was coveted by the French.
Napoleon himself used these fortifications for his campaigns against Italy and Habsburg.
This Alpine pass, like other Alpine passes in the region, the Colle San Bernardo, the Passo Teglia and perhaps also the nearby Colle d'Oggia, Passo di Conio and Passo di Carpasio, can be easily combined into a round trip in the border area between Piedmont and Liguria. Either from the Riviera via Dolceaqua, or from Limone (Piedmont) or Cuneo, for example, if you want to include the Alta Via del Sale (Ligurian border ridge road).
