Altes Almhaus | 1649 METER | Gaberl Maria Lankowitz

The “Altes Almhaus” Alpine pass is a saddle in Styria, in the Lavant Valley Alps. It can be reached from the north via the Gaberl – a nearby Alpine pass – along a high-altitude trail, and from the village of Maria Lankowitz. The route around the pass summit is gravelled. From there, off-roaders – when the road is open – can also continue along a forest track to the Salzstiegelhaus.
The gravel track has few bends and is only moderately steep, so it can be tackled with little off-road experience – and even with standard tyres. The tarmac section on the southern side is winding, narrow and has patches of poor tarmac in places.
Note: Naturally, the condition of the gravel track may vary depending on the season and weather.
