Vahta-Pass | 616 METER | Novo Mesto Metlika

The Vahtapass, at 616 metres, marks the official eastern end of the Alps and thus the official Alpine passes. It lies on the border with the Dinaric Alps, more precisely on the edge of the Gorancji Mountains. The route is very busy, but at the right time of day it makes for an interesting drive through a number of bends and two hairpin bends (north of the pass summit). The economically important town of Novo Mesto lies on the northern approach, whilst the Croatian border lies to the south, which explains the usually heavy traffic.
For your information: further east there are other interesting passes, including very winding gravel roads.
