Turracher Höhe | 1795 METER | Predlitz-Turrach Ebene Reichenau

Turracher Höhe or Turracherhöhe refers to a village, an Alpine pass and a landscape in the Gurktaler Alps in Austria. The settlement of the same name and Lake Turracher See at the pass summit are divided between two federal states, Styria and Carinthia, by the border. Due to its high location, which is far from early settlement areas, the area was only settled relatively late. Mining began below the Turracher Höhe from the 17th century onwards, but it was only later that the top of the pass was developed with a paved road. Over the course of the 20th century, the region was gradually developed for tourism. The growing diversity of plant and animal species on Turracher Höhe is being addressed through the creation of nature reserves and the careful and natural expansion of tourist facilities.
