Sella Cereschiatis | 1077 METER | Moggio Udinese Pontebba
The Sella Cereschiatis is a connection between Pontebba and Moggio di Sotto. Since there is a fast connection through the Kanaltal valley, almost parallel to this route (including a motorway), this Alpine pass is used almost exclusively for tourist purposes.
The first challenge for those coming from Pontebba is finding the driveway. This is because there are no signposts for the Alpine pass. There is also no sign at all for the destination of Moggio di Sotto. This is probably another reason why the Alpine pass is not well known. Simply follow the SP 112 in the direction of Studena Alta – not to be confused with Studena Bassa, which is located on the ramp to Passo del Cason di Lanza.
Sella Cereschiatis is mostly in the shade, making it ideal for hot days. On the east side, there are some nice combinations of bends, whereas the west side is somewhat less spectacular. At the pass summit, there are two small car parks, also very pleasantly situated in semi-shade.
The Sella Cereschiatis can be easily incorporated into a round trip through north-eastern Friuli – with the Alpine passes of Passo del Cason di Lanza, Passo Duron, Forcella Lius (perhaps as a detour to Monte Paularo) and Monte Zoncolan.
