Reschenpass | 1504 METER | Vorderrauth Schluderns
The Reschen Pass, or simply Reschen, is an Alpine pass in the Tyrolean Alps. It runs parallel to the Brenner Pass in a southerly direction. The Alpine pass crosses the main Alpine ridge in a north-south direction and connects the South Tyrolean Vinschgau with the Austrian Tyrol. However, the pass itself is located entirely on Italian territory and is 1,507 metres above sea level. The northern ramp is a well-maintained road with only a few bends. The southern ramp is also well maintained, but leads through numerous villages down to the Vinschgau Valley and on to Merano.
The Reschen Pass is therefore more of a typical transit pass and a real alternative to the Brenner Pass and also to the San Bernardino.
Tip: Lake Reschen near Graun, below the village of Reschen, is worth a stop. Not only is the view to the south, towards the Ortler Group, picturesque and worth seeing, but the history of how and when the lake was formed is also worth reading – on information boards on site. This also explains why a church tower rises out of the water, visible from afar.
