Passo del Mortirolo | 1852 METER | Grósio Monno

The Passo del Mortirolo, formerly known as the Passo della Foppa, is an Italian Alpine pass in Lombardy. It connects the villages of Monno in the south and Grosio in the north. The pass is 1,852 metres high. The road over the pass is well tarmacked throughout, though in places it is single-lane. The western side, in particular, is varied and very winding. Some sections have a gradient of up to 16 per cent. It is also worth noting that the route climbs steadily – unusually, there are no flat sections.
At the summit, there is a small gravel car park. As already mentioned, the pass is now better known as the Passo del Mortirolo, which is actually a secondary pass of the Passo della Foppa. The route is also signposted under this name from Monno. Due to the dense woodland at the summit, views are only possible to the west.

This Alpine pass is directly followed by the ascent to the Col Carette di Val Bighera. An old road, originally used by the military, which today leads to several mountain pastures (malgas). Highly recommended if you’re already at the Passo del Mortirolo. The views from here are incredible.
