Col de l’Iseran | 2764 METER | Bonneval-sur-Arc Bourg-Saint-Maurice
At 2764 metres, the Col de l'Iseran is the highest traversable mountain pass in the Alps. The road, which is paved throughout, is part of the Route des Grandes Alpes. It connects the French valley towns of Bonneval-sur-Arc and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. The road is only open during the summer months, as it is used as a ski slope from 1 October to 30 May.
The road is wide and the bends are sweeping. The Alpine pass is closed repeatedly during the season, depending on the weather. The most common causes in recent years have been avalanches and landslides. It is always worth checking in advance. Alternatively, if it is closed, the Col de la Madeleine Alpine pass is an option.
