Wechsel | 1031 METER | Rottach-Egern Forsthaus Valepp

The Wechsel is a mountain pass in the Alps between the Austrian federal states of Lower Austria and Styria. It has a highest point of 980 metres near the village of Mönichkirchen and connects the municipality of Grimmenstein in the Bucklige Welt region with the municipality of Pinggau at the foot of the eponymous Wechsel mountain. It is crossed by the B54 Wechselstraße, which was the most important road link between Vienna and Graz until the expansion of the A2 Südautobahn motorway in the 1980s. Today, this federal road is also referred to as a scenic road, which is due to the beautiful viewpoints along the road.
