Valparolapass | 2192 METER | Stern Passo di Falzarego
The Passo del Valparola (Valparola Pass) is an Alpine pass in the Italian Alps, in the province of Belluno in the Veneto region, on the border with South Tyrol. It lies at an altitude of 2,192 metres.
At the top of the pass are Lago di Valparola (Lake Valparola) and the Forti Tre Sassi, a fortification dating from the First World War. The site has been converted into a museum and is open to visitors. There are also a number of gun emplacements and trenches to explore.
The Valparola Pass is situated near the famous Sella Ronda and can easily be incorporated into an extended route around the Sella massif.
The northern approach is the more interesting route, featuring a number of bends but, above all, offering impressive views of the Dolomites’ striking landscape. The southern approach, by contrast, is extremely short, as it leads directly and very straight to the next Alpine pass, the Passo di Falzarego (2,105 metres), which is only 87 metres lower.
