Sella Nevea | 1195 METER | Chiusaforte Predil | Raibl

A well-paved mountain pass road from Chiusaforte (Valcanale, Friuli, in the west) to Cave di Predil and on to Tarvisio (Friuli). The route or ramp from Chiusaforte is more demanding and has some interesting bends just before the pass summit. The ramp from or to Cave di Predil is easy to drive – only four beautifully curved bends. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful, impressive landscape and not a very busy Alpine pass. The western side is densely forested with a wide variety of species, hence it is often cited. 
The slope of the route is very moderate and negligible, hence no information given in the facts.
On the eastern side, the route leads along Lake Predil – an emerald-green mountain lake with only a small depth. It warms up quickly and is therefore quite suitable for bathing – compared to many deep mountain lakes. There are some bathing spots with parking and rest facilities. The best view of the Predil Lake and its intensely coloured water is from the Predil Bunker on the driveway up to the Predil Pass.
At the northern tip of the lake (towards Tarvisio) there is a turnoff towards the Predil Pass, and further on to Slovenia to the Mangart Ucja Pass and the Vrsic Pass. A trip to the ‘Log pod Mangartom’ and Soca Valley is always worthwhile.
Via Tarvisio, you bypass these passes and continue towards the Wurzenpass and thus to Carinthia.
