Pyhrnpass | 954 METER | Spital am Pyhrn Liezen

The Pyhrn Pass is a 954-metre-high pass on the border of the Austrian federal states of Upper Austria in the north and Styria in the south. It is located between Warscheneck and Bosruck in the Northern Limestone Alps of the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen region. The Pyhrn Pass is a very low mountain pass in this area of the Eastern Alps and has been important for this reason since the Neolithic Age. It was created by a rockslide, possibly triggered by the asteroid impact of the Nördlinger Ries, 300 kilometres to the north-west, which about 15 million years ago diverted the northward course of the Ur-Enns river southwards into the Graz Basin.
