Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße | 2504 METER | Ferleiten Heiligenblut
The Großglockner High Alpine Road is a high alpine mountain road that connects the two Austrian federal states of Salzburg and Carinthia. It runs from Bruck an der Großglocknerstraße over the two passes Fuscher Törl and Hochtor to Heiligenblut am Großglockner. It is the highest paved pass road in Austria. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a private road open to the public, and a toll is charged for driving on it with a motor vehicle. It is impassable in winter between Ferleiten and Heiligenblut; snow depths of more than ten metres are not uncommon. The winter closure is from around the end of October to the beginning of May, depending on the weather conditions. There is also a night closure. The two toll booths are manned between 5:00 and 21:30 in the high season, and between 6:00 and 20:00 in the spring and between 6:00 and 19:30 in the autumn in the low season.
