Col du Festre | 1441 METER | Saint-Disdier Montmaur
The Col du Festre Alpine pass, also known as Col d'Agnieres, is a pass in the Dévoluy massif in the French Alps, at an altitude of 1,441 metres in the Hautes-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. From the north, the route passes through Pellafol and connects the Drac Valley in the north, Corups, with the upper Vallée du Buëch in the south.
The northern ascent from Pellafol begins with the crossing of the Pont de Baume on the D537. The road runs along the Souloise to Saint-Disdier before splitting. Follow the D537 and you will reach the pass via Agnières-en-Dévoluy. The approximately 12.5-kilometre-long ascent has an average gradient of 4.2 per cent. The steepest sections reach around 7 per cent at Le Grand Villard and shortly before the highest point. Between the steep hairpin bends, there is a flat section of around 1.5 kilometres in the middle of the route.
The southern ascent of Montmaur is 13.9 kilometres long and also has an average gradient of 4.2 per cent. The first six kilometres, which run along the Béoux, climb only about 2 per cent before another kilometre with an average gradient of 6 per cent follows after crossing the river. This section also includes a short tunnel passage. After another flat section, the last five kilometres have a steeper gradient of around 6.2 per cent. At La Cluse, you reach two hairpin bends, the steepest section with a gradient of around 8 per cent, before the road flattens out again for the last two kilometres.
The D937 runs over the Col du Festre – in the north, the D17 branches off below the pass. While the southern ramp leads up through a mountainous valley, the northern side takes you through a wide, open landscape. From the northern ramp, the route to the Col de Rioupes and on to the Col du Noyer branches off before Agnières-en-Dévouly.
