Col de Vence | 781 METER | Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont Grenoble
The Col de Vence, not to be confused with the Alpine pass of the same name above Nice, is part of a series of Alpine passes that lead through the Chartreuse massif – from Chambéry in the north to Grenoble in the southwest. It is the southernmost Alpine pass in the Chartreuse massif. Unfortunately, it is not recognisable as such. It is located at the turnoff for Clémencières, a town about 4 kilometres away that also has an alpine pass, the Col de Clémencières.
The pass summit probably dates from a time when there was no north-south connection through the Chartreuse massif. Nevertheless, the tour through the massif is a great scenic experience.
