Col de la Forclaz | 1527 METER | Martigny Le Châtelard

The Col de la Forclaz is a mountain pass in the Swiss canton of Valais. It connects the towns of Martigny and Le Châtelard (border with France). The pass summit is 1527 metres above sea level, between Mont de l'Arpille (2,085 m) in the north and Croix des Prélayes (2,417 m) in the Le Génépi massif (2,884 m) in the south. The pass is the main route from Martigny to Chamonix in France via the Col des Montets.
The alpine pass is the gateway to the French Western Alps. The road is well paved throughout. The road is wide and has few curves. At the pass summit stands a hotel with a restaurant and bar. A stop here is worthwhile. The border to France is a little below the pass, on the southern ramp.
