Col d’Allos | 2247 METER | Barcelonnette Colmars
The Col d'Allos is an Alpine pass at an altitude of 2247 metres in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department. It connects the small towns of Barcelonnette (1150 m) with Colmars (1261 m). For your information: in Colmars, the ramp (eastbound) to Col de Champs begins. Heading south-west, the less interesting Col des Robines follows.
The Col d'Allos is a beautiful, winding alternative route to the parallel north-south connections of the Col de la Cayolle and the Col de la Bonette. It is the right choice if you are travelling towards the Verdon Gorge or starting from there. This is because the Verdon River rises near the top of the pass and later runs through the well-known and quite spectacular Verdon Gorge (Gorges du Verdon).
