Motorcycle Museum, Col de Vars, Saint Paul sur Ubaye
It may be hard to believe, but the small town of Saint Paul sur Ubaye, on the southern side of the Col de Vars, is home to a small but sensational motorcycle museum. Most of the motorcycles here belong to Laurent Gonnard, who started collecting everything related to two wheels and an engine when he was young.
The entire collection and museum belong to a cooperative or community of a few enthusiasts from the area. There are now around 70 restored and thus drivable objects on display here. In addition, there are many accessories, posters and signs that all embody the community's passion for collecting. The oldest vehicles date from 1925.
The museum is open from June to September, admission is free, donations are welcome if you like it. The owner speaks a little English, but the motorcycles are self-explanatory.
A visit to the museum is a must if you are in the area. Saint Paul sur Ubaye is located at about 1400 metres, just at the southern foot of the Col de Vars. The museum is located at the entrance of the village and is well signposted.
The entire village is worth seeing, especially the old church. There is a café and a restaurant in the village.
