Steeple of Altgraun

In the 1960s, a reservoir was created here, the Reschensee. The village of Altgraun was partly cleared, and the inhabitants resettled. After the lake had filled up, only the church steeple could still be seen from the village. There is a large car park and some information boards about the history of the village and its demise. The Italian government's actions were particularly inglorious.

Lake Reschen is located below the Reschenpass on the Italian side. The village of Reschen am See is located at its northern tip. There are a number of good places to stay here and a little below the pass, already on the Austrian side, in Nauders.

In Nauders, there is a cross-border connection to Switzerland, in the direction of Scuol and further into the Upper Engadine. Interesting fact: the road to Switzerland leads through a gorge where the Inn flows.
