Weissensee – slow trails and water of drinking quality.

Lake Weissensee is located north of the Gail Valley and in the extension of the Rosental Valley to the west. It is the cleanest of all lakes in Carinthia. Its water is extremely clear. In midsummer, the lake reaches temperatures of up to 25 degrees.
 

It is interesting that there is no way to drive around the lake – a conscious decision was made to avoid roads along the lake. It is therefore all the more worth a trip. It is best to plan it into a tour that comes from the southwest. For example, over the Nassfeld Pass from Friuli and on over the Kreuzberg Saddle. Or even at the end of a tour that descends from the Großglockner High Alpine Road via Lienz from the north.
