Soglio, ‘threshold of paradise’, restaurant, beer garden, medieval village

Soglio, a small village on a sunny plateau, lies about 1100 metres above the Bergell. The Swiss artist named this place the ‘threshold to paradise’.

Due to its unique location, many more things grow and flourish here than in the rest of the Bergell. Cheese and chestnut products from Soglio are in demand throughout Switzerland.

The view of the mountain range of the ski resorts, Piz Zengalo and Piz Badile, is also unique. The village centre is formed by a few palazzi from the 16th and 17th century. One palazzo has been converted into a hotel with a beer garden. Highly recommended. Not exactly cheap, like the rest of Switzerland, but worth a stop. The beer garden is located in an oasis of flowers, shrubs and a many hundred-year-old sequoia.
