San Magno pilgrimage church, eastern ramp of the Colle Fauniera
The San Magno Sanctuary is a place of worship dedicated to the veneration of Saint Magno the Martyr (protector of cattle and pastures, the main sources of food for the local population).
Its foundation dates back to the 15th century. However, the present structure dates from the 18th century.
A place of worship was already built here in Roman times. The place seems to have a certain attraction.
In the summer months, pilgrims can still get accommodation and refreshments.
It is worth visiting to see artefacts from Roman times, among other things.
The most important wooden statue in the chancel – dating from the 15th century – was stolen in the 1980s and found again in 2017. It too can be marvelled at today.
After the strenuous ascent, before the remaining kilometres to the alpine passes Colle Fauniera and Colle Eseschie, a short stop here is always worthwhile, also to enjoy the magnificent view of the Cottian Alps in peace.
