Gorges de Daluis, Western Alps

The Gorges de Daluis start after the village of Guillaumes (north to south) and end at the D202 that leads to Entreveaux. The route is about 20 kilometres long. It leads along the rocks, high above the river Var. The road to the south leads through tunnels again and again, while the route always leads around the rock formations. There are some points where it is worth stopping. There is the ‘Pont de la Mariée’, a pedestrian bridge over the gorge with a great view. In addition, a steep iron staircase leads to the mountain top. The view is accordingly magnificent. Further south, it is worth stopping at the cascades (see signs). And then there is the ‘Tete de femme’ (woman's head). A trip through this gorge should be part of every tour in the region.

Incidentally, the route of the Gorges du Cians, which runs parallel to it, is different. Here you drive almost exclusively at the level of the Cians River, looking up at mighty cliffs – through the interesting vegetation, due to the climate, it feels like you are in the primeval times.
