Belvédère des Glacières – Verdon Gorge, viewpoint

The ‘Belvédère des Glacières’ is a view point on the D23 in the Alpes de Haute-Provence department. The 23 runs from east to west along the Verdon Gorge.
‘Belvédère des Glacières’ does not mean, as the name might suggest, that there are glaciers nearby. It refers to holes in the rocks where ice was stored in the days before electricity.
The road along the Gorges de Verdon is legendary, as are the views of the fantastic landscape. It's hard to believe that you are still in the Alps. You have to stop here, enjoy the peace and quiet, and with a little time and luck, spot large birds of prey.
